This episode of BCEN and Friends lets you meet our friend Deb Delany.
Deb Delaney DNP, MHA, RN, CEN has had nearly every role in the ED that one could possibly have. In 1989, she began at St Vincent Hospital ED as a patient liaison, a role that was primarily transporting blood to the lab (no tubes in those days!) and providing pillows and blankets and handholding to frightened ED patients. Deb knew immediately the ED was where she belonged. She spent 18 years working in every role from ED Transporter to ED Director. For the past 15 years, Deb has worked as a consultant, spending time in many hospitals across the country helping to improve ED flow, nurse engagement and empower the front-line staff.
She is a frequently sought speaker at local and national ENA conferences, where she shares her wit and wisdom to delighted audiences. She is a contributing author in the 2016 book “Emergency Nursing: the profession, the pathway, the practice” and the 2020 Lippincott CEN Review.
She is currently working with Mednition Inc., a technology company utilizing artificial intelligence for healthcare. Her role as implementation lead is to bring technology and machine learning to emergency nurses.
Deb has been married to John for 38 years. They have three children and five grandchildren as well as a big and happy Black Lab named Tank. She resides in Massachusetts, and happily spends some time each winter in Florida, where she and her husband golf and relax.
Janie Schumaker and Mark Eggers talk with Deb Delany, about her career, what she did before nursing, how she got into nursing, and her passion for patient care and nurses in particular. Come along with us as we talk to Deb about then and now.
